Euphoria
The pleasant feeling that can lead to long-term problems. Euphoria is seen as something that cannot cause harm. You feel very happy. As if nothing is impossible. And then it's gone. Suddenly. That euphoric feeling. You start searching for that pleasant feeling. You become addicted to it. More and more. But you can't seem to regain the feeling.
Euphoria is an extreme feeling of joy that can have various consequences. These consequences can be positive but also negative. Through photography, I want to tell three stories to make the viewer aware of the negative consequences of euphoria.
Three images, each with its own story, that together paint a picture of the negative consequences of euphoria. People who are constantly searching for euphoria every day and therefore delve deeper into addiction. That feeling should come out of the images. Stories that all show different problems, but still revolve around the same theme. Addiction to sex, drugs, and acceptance. Mental problems such as bipolar disorder, depression, and paranoia. All of the above problems are the consequences of prolonged euphoria.
My work is inspired by the works of Erwin Olaf, a photographer whom I had the opportunity to learn from during my internship over the last four months. What was important to me during this project is the amount of research that had to be done to ultimately create my images. I am very grateful to every person who has supported and helped me during this project.
